Honesty is a virtue characterized by truthfulness, straightforwardness and moral up-righteousness in words and actions. An honest person is trustworthy, loyal fair and sincere. It also implies absence of lying, cheating, theft or corruption.

Nolan committee has recognized honesty as one of the seven principles of public life explaining that the holders of public office have a duty to declare any private interests relating to their public duties and to take steps to resolve any conflict of interest arising out of it.
